Thomas Martinsen recommends using a Silverlight Splashscreen in case your application takes some time to load. He gives a careful explanation and provides code to achieve a simple but very useful loader screen. Good news for some: it doesn't require editing in Blend.

I found this very useful. It's an article series that cover the following:
Module 1: Getting Started – Architecture / Framework
Module 2: Movement and collision detection
Module 3: Design – Sprites, boards and dialogs
Module 4: Animations and sound
Module 5: Initialization and Deployment
Module 6: Advanced concepts (Physics, Multiplayer, Optimization)
I believe the last one so far is module 3. Interesting.

It's the only one I have tried so far since I have been working with Fireworks lately. It works fine for me, very simple to use although you may need to modify the resulting xaml to better fit your project.
